Monday Club is about to finish for the summer but we have had a good year with an average attendance of 15, one more than last year. In June we have been delighted to welcome three new children. We continue to be blessed with fourteen very committed helpers without whom the Club could not function. Some help in the kitchen, others with craft, games, technology and others the planning and preparation for each week. The children rush in from school and one was heard to say, “Your toast is much better than my mother’s”!

During the last few weeks of the year we have explored some of the special Sundays in the Church Year. Firstly Trinity Sunday when amongst other activities we played a couple of ‘three in one’ games. Then for MHA Sunday we were delighted to welcome May Lawley who came to tell the older girls about her life, especially when she was a Land Girl. The younger children thought about all the different generations in their families and drew pictures of their immediate families, some of which may appear in the Greenway Road window. One helper brought a photograph of the five generations in her family. The children decorated a gingerbread man as a member of their family. Food plays a big part in Monday Club!

The next week was Refugee Sunday and we heard the story of Ruth and Naomi both of whom, in their turn, had been refugees.

We seem to have developed a tradition where the penultimate week is a drama and games session looking back to favourite stories of the past year. The final week we have a party with a special tea and games. We finish in church when we say farewell to our Year 6s whom we shall be very sorry to see leave. We wish them well as they move on to secondary education.

We start back in September and plans for next year are underway!
